K-pop fans flocking to Seoul left scrambling to find places to store luggage

Baggage storage services in Seoul are overwhelmed with requests from K-pop fans needing to store their luggage ahead of a BTS concert.

As the BTS concert approaches, the demand for baggage storage services in Seoul has skyrocketed, prompting operators to search for new locations to accommodate the influx of fans. Doh In-hwan, CEO of a luggage storage and delivery service, highlighted the dramatic increase in inquiries as foreign fans flock to the city, making it necessary to expand storage capacity from 1,000 to potentially 10,000 bags. This rise in demand stems from the concert’s strict bag check policies which prohibit large bags to ensure the safety of attendees.

In conjunction with the concert in Gwanghwamun Square, fans are facing logistical challenges regarding their luggage as they prepare for the event. Many traveling from abroad must find convenient storage options before entering the venue, creating a heightened sense of urgency for local businesses. Doh noted that his team has increased staffing to help manage the influx and facilitate the transportation of customers' bags to alleviate some of this stress on concertgoers.

The situation underscores the significant impact K-pop events have on local tourism and services, as fans are not just visitors but active participants in the cultural landscape. With large crowds expected, the challenge of accommodating their needs—from storage to ensuring a smooth experience at the concert—reflects the growing prominence of K-pop in driving international tourism to South Korea.
