Spring Risks for Cars โ Flying Stones Cause 4000 Euros in Damages
A report indicates that flying stones caused by severe temperature fluctuations this spring have led to significant car damage, costing up to 4000 euros in insurance claims.
According to data from BTA Baltic Insurance Company, the largest insurance payout for car damage from flying stones in the past three years has reached 4000 euros. This increase in claims is attributed to severe temperature fluctuations at the transition from winter to spring, which damage road surfaces and lead to an increase in debris such as stones, gravel, and rubble causing harm to cars. The majority of these claims are associated with windshield, headlight, and body damage.
BTAโs report reveals that since 2023, the highest number of KASKO insurance claims due to flying stones has been reported in several areas including Riga, Valmiera, Sigulda, Cฤsis, Tukums, Bauska, Saldus, and Jelgava. These locations have seen an increase in vehicle damage, highlighting the need for better road maintenance to prevent such incidents. The frequency of claims for stone-related damages is noted to be six times higher than claims for damages caused by potholes over the same period.
The implications of these findings emphasize the increasing burden on car owners and the insurance market due to seasonal weather changes. As spring approaches, both insurance companies and drivers need to be aware of the heightened risk associated with flying stones, and the data suggests a pressing need for improved road infrastructure to minimize such occurrences and enhance driver safety during transitional weather periods.
