Announcing the competition for municipalities 'Latvia's Youth Capital 2027'
A competition is being held for municipalities to become 'Latvia's Youth Capital 2027', with submissions due by June 5.
Latvia has announced a competition for municipalities to secure the title of 'Youth Capital 2027', aiming to enhance youth engagement and collaboration among local authorities. The competition will take place in two rounds, with the first evaluating submissions from municipalities by a designated committee, and the second round featuring a public voting process on the LSM.lv portal from July 20 to July 29. The winner will be determined based on the highest number of votes received during the public voting phase. The initiative is designed to promote youth work within municipalities, strengthen cooperation in youth domains, and facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences. It also aims to elevate the status of individuals and organizations involved in youth work and encourage young people’s participation in public processes. The winners will be announced at the 'Kopums' youth opportunities festival in Rēzekne, the Youth Capital of 2026, on August 12. Municipalities that win the competition will implement their proposed plans in 2027, including collaborative efforts with various ministries. This competition not only seeks to empower local authorities in fostering youth engagement but also aims to strengthen ties and build a supportive environment for young people across Latvia.
