An educational series of sessions called "Tasty conversations about Latvian historical lands" will commence, focusing on cultural heritage, with the first session dedicated to the traditions of Latgale.
A new educational initiative titled "Tasty conversations about Latvian historical lands" is set to begin, featuring sessions that will enhance learning through traditional musical examples along with performances from cultural ensembles representing various regions. The inaugural session will focus on the cultural heritage of Latgale, a region known for its rich traditions.
The first event will take place at the Brīvdabas muzeja Priedes krogs, with the Viļaka folklore ensemble "Atzele" set to perform, immersing attendees in the regional culture. A key component of the session will be a presentation by folklorist and professor Janīna Kursīte, who will discuss significant elements that shape the identity and essence of Latgale. Topics will include historical renaming related to the Līvānu railway station and its connection to Latvian identity, underlining the rich artistic traditions of the region, particularly pottery.
Kursīte highlights the importance of historical figures like Jānis Pujāts, who played a vital role in reviving and preserving Latgale's cultural heritage during Soviet times. The series signifies an effort to engage the community in uncovering and appreciating regional cultural legacies, thereby fostering a greater understanding of the historical lands of Latvia and their impact on national identity.
