Gang of Four Women Caught Planning to Steal Jewelry during Navaratri Crowds in Temples
Police in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, arrested a gang of six inter-state robbers, four of whom are women, who were planning a series of thefts during the Navaratri festival.
In Banda, Uttar Pradesh, police apprehended a gang of six robbers, including four women, who were operating across multiple states. The gang, hailing from Haryana and Rajasthan, was involved in a spate of thefts and con jobs, executed while traveling in cars across the country. The police uncovered their plans to target busy temples during the Navaratri festival, anticipating high foot traffic of worshippers and the potential for significant loot.
The police's operation led to the seizure of valuables worth 32 lakh rupees, which included gold and silver jewelry, cash, vehicles, and mobile phones. Interestingly, the gang had recently purchased a new Grand Vitara car using proceeds from their criminal activities. The police launched this operation following a rise in street robberies and scams involving e-rickshaws in Banda, prompting the SP to form dedicated teams to investigate and apprehend the criminals.
This incident highlights the increasing trend of organized crime groups attempting to exploit religious festivals, like Navaratri, to maximize their thefts. By planning to execute their crimes in crowded temple areas, these criminals posed a significant threat to the safety of worshippers. The police have begun analyzing the gang's criminal history to potentially uncover further connections or ongoing activities across other regions.
