Customs: Finns have a problematic new preference – half a kilo caught in the net
Finnish Customs revealed a major drug bust involving significant amounts of hashish and cocaine, as part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in Finland.
In early 2023, Finnish Customs announced the unearthing of a series of serious drug-related crimes, having intercepted multiple packages from Italy containing large amounts of hashish and cocaine. Inspections conducted in Vantaa and Pirkkala disclosed half a kilo of cocaine and over 30 kilos of hashish and marijuana, with a street value exceeding two million euros. These narcotics were sent to various Finnish cities, including Vantaa, Turku, and Tampere, via express freight.
The investigative efforts revealed that from December 2025 to January 2026, eight drug shipments arrived in Finland, leading to suspicion that at least 13 kilos of cocaine and 50 kilos of hashish and marijuana were brought into the country. In addition to narcotics, authorities also seized over 8,000 euros in suspected counterfeit cash from the home of the suspects involved in the case, as stated by the investigation leader, Tuomas Korhonen.
Two individuals suspected of drug offenses have been arrested in Tampere and are currently in custody. Finnish Customs is continuing its vigilance against drug smuggling operations, highlighting a growing trend in problematic drug preferences among the Finnish populace, pointing towards a potentially escalating issue of drug trafficking in the region.
