Schoolchildren, teacher escape death in Lagos road crash

Two students and their teacher survived a serious road accident in Lagos without fatalities, although they experienced some discomfort.

In Lagos, Nigeria, an accident involving a vehicle carrying two students from the Lagos State Model Junior College and their teacher occurred while they were traveling near the Onipanu area. The accident took place at around 6:00 p.m. when the vehicle collided with a car, both reportedly speeding at the time of the incident. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, and all individuals involved escaped with minor injuries.

According to Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, both cars were severely damaged in the crash, leading to one vehicle swerving into the opposite lane. The Honda Accord had a single occupant while the Suzuki Alto was occupied by the teacher and two students, who were on their way back from school. The prompt response from emergency services helped to ensure that the situation was managed effectively, with no serious consequences.

Reports indicate that the two injured students, identified as Animashaun Ridwan and Ogunbamowo Michael, both in junior secondary school, experienced head and eye discomfort but have since been cleared of any serious injuries. This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety in Lagos, particularly involving schoolchildren, and raises questions about the urgency for stricter traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future.
