Bissan Edwan, a Palestinian writer and fellow of Lund Municipality since last year, may lose her fellowship due to her controversial comments on social media expressing support for Hamas and celebrations following the October 7th attacks. She was granted sanctuary through the municipality’s fellowship program, aimed at allowing her to complete two books while having housing and financial support, an arrangement that costs the municipality over 900,000 SEK. After a report by Expressen revealed Edwan’s social media activity, Lund Municipality is set to decide on the continuation of her fellowship in a meeting scheduled for Thursday evening.

The chairman of the Culture and Leisure Committee, Sebastian Jaktling (S), stated that Edwan's comments which encourage terror stand in stark contrast to the municipality's values, thus calling into question the provision of a platform for her through the fellowship program.
