The 98th Selected High School Baseball Championship has begun in Japan, featuring last summer's champion Okinawa Shogaku competing against Teikyo in their opening match.
The 98th Selected High School Baseball Championship kicked off on the 19th at Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture. During the opening ceremony, players from all 32 participating schools marched, led by last year's champion, Yokohama from Kanagawa Prefecture. The captain of Kitahiroshima from Hokkaido delivered a spirited oath declaring their commitment to cherish this moment and embody the dreams of future generations through their efforts in the tournament.
In the opening match, last summer's national championship winners, Okinawa Shogaku, faced off against Teikyo from Tokyo. The competition, celebrated as a cornerstone of Japanese youth sports, is set to take place over 13 days, including two rest days. Following Okinawa's match, the tournament schedule features additional matchups including Anan Koko vs. Chukyo Daiichis and Hachinohe Gakuin Kosei vs. Soto.
