The 98th Senbatsu High School Baseball Tournament opens on the 19th, featuring strong contenders like Yokohama, Okinawa Shougaku, and Yamanashi Gakuin.

The 98th edition of the Senbatsu High School Baseball Tournament is set to commence on the 19th at the Hanshin Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo. This tournament features 32 schools competing for the prestigious purple and crimson championship flag over 13 days, including two rest days. Notably, Yokohama aims for a fourth consecutive title, while the opening match will see Teikyo, making a return after 16 years, face off against defending champions Okinawa Shougaku. The introduction of the designated hitter (DH) rule adds a new dynamic to this year's competition.

Yokohama's ace pitcher Shoki Oda, who has a top speed of 154 kilometers per hour, stands out as a key player, having already logged numerous appearances at Koshien. Alongside him, the promising two-year student pitcher, Tetsusaburo Kobayashi, is expected to showcase his remarkable variety of pitches. Yokohama’s lineup also boasts established players such as Shunsuke Ono and Seima Ikeda, who are confident about their higher skill levels compared to last year's team. Their opponent, Kamimura Gakuen from Kagoshima, will rely on standout pitcher Ryuto Takaki, known for his exceptional control.

Okinawa Shougaku's pitching staff is equally impressive, retaining key players who contributed to their previous national championship victory. Key pitcher Ryosuke Sueyoshi brings a top speed of 150 kilometers and is noted for his ability to step up in crucial moments. As Teikyo faces Okinawa Shougaku in the opening match, players like Joji Ando and second-year student Ryunosuke Mesuda from Teikyo are being watched for their capacity to change the game's momentum. The anticipation for highly competitive matchups is palpable as teams prepare to reveal their strengths in this prestigious tournament.
