A Look at the Opening of Inta Ruka's Photography Exhibition 'Places to Call Home' at 'Fotografiska Tallinn'

Inta Ruka's photography exhibition 'Places to Call Home' opened at Fotografiska Tallinn, featuring two thematic series with over 80 photographs.

At the end of last week, the contemporary photography center 'Fotografiska Tallinn' was the venue for the opening of Inta Ruka's exhibition titled 'Places to Call Home.' This exhibition brings together two thematic series known as 'My Country Folk' and 'Amālijas iela 5a,' collectively showcasing more than 80 photographs that reflect the essence of home and community. The narratives embedded in these series resonate deeply with the viewers, inviting them to explore the personal stories behind each photograph.

On the day of the opening, March 13, two guided tours of the exhibition were conducted—one in the day and another in the evening. These tours were led by Inta Ruka herself and the exhibition curators, including Jessica Jarl, the global exhibition director of 'Fotografiska,' and Maarja Loorents, the exhibition manager and co-founder of 'Fotografiska Tallinn.' The presence of these prominent figures provided attendees with insightful commentary on Ruka's work and the thematic elements of the exhibition, enhancing the overall experience.

The exhibition not only highlights Ruka’s artistic prowess but also emphasizes the importance of culture and identity in our understanding of home. As attendees navigated through the exhibition space, they were able to engage with the visual narratives that challenge and celebrate the concept of what it means to belong somewhere. By showcasing local stories through the lens of photography, the exhibition serves as a testament to the rich tapestry of life in Latvia, fostering a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences that shape our perceptions of home.
