Public Ministry charges man with zoophilia against 11 dogs in Pará

A man in Pará, Brazil, has been charged with zoophilia after allegedly abusing 11 dogs under his care.

The Public Ministry of the State of Pará (MPPA) has formally charged a man suspected of severe animal abuse, including sexual misconduct involving 11 dogs in Castanhal, located in northeastern Pará. The charges were announced on Tuesday, the 17th, where the prosecutor Maria José Vieira de Carvalho Cunha, head of the Animal Rights Defense Unit, requested the preventive detention of the accused. This legal action was supported by a thorough investigation that revealed the man was responsible for the care of the dogs but reportedly subjected female dogs to repeated acts of zoophilia.

According to forensic reports, the physical evidence collected during the investigation highlighted injuries consistent with forced manipulation and acts of violence, confirming the occurrence of the crime. Additionally, the charges were backed by technical evidence, witness testimonies, and various components from the police inquiry. If convicted, the man could face a prison sentence ranging from two to five years, alongside a fine and a prohibition from keeping animals in the future.

Prosecutor Cunha emphasized the seriousness of the situation, denouncing that these animals are victims of heinous acts that exploit their vulnerable state. This case reflects the ongoing issues of animal rights and the need for stronger protections against such abuses in Brazil, an issue that has been gaining visibility and prompting calls for legal reform in the country to ensure justice for animals.
