National Assembly recognizes the sports, cultural, business, and educational achievements of citizens from Cuenca and Azuay

On March 18, 2026, the Ecuadorian National Assembly convened in the city of Cuenca to present several agreements and decorations acknowledging the significant work of citizens and institutions representing Cuenca and the province of Azuay in various fields, including sports, culture, social initiatives, business, and education. The Assembly, led by interim president Mishel Mancheno, awarded the mayor Deifilio Arévalo Vásquez an agreement recognizing the city of Chordeleg for its designation as a "Creative City" by UNESCO in 2017. This recognition highlights Chordeleg's commitment to cultural and creative industries, which play a vital role in promoting local heritage and tourism.
Additionally, the achievements of local athletes Tomás Chica Pérez in triathlon, Tamara Orellana in Taekwondo, and Darwin Castro in Paralympic disciplines were celebrated for their significant accomplishments in both national and international competitions, showcasing the talent present in Ecuadorian sports and further elevating the profile of the country in global athletic events.
