Repatriation of Pets: Greeks Returned with Their 'Four-Legged Family Members' from the Middle East
A special repatriation flight organized by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully brought back Greek citizens and their pets from the Middle East.
On Wednesday evening, the arrivals area of Athens' Eleftherios Venizelos Airport was filled with touching scenes as dozens of pet dogs and cats arrived alongside their Greek owners. This historic repatriation effort marks a significant step taken by the Greek government, aiming not just to bring citizens home from the increasingly tense situation in the Middle East, but also to ensure the safe return of their beloved animals, who are considered family members.
The flight, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was the first of its kind dedicated to the repatriation of Greeks and their pets, demonstrating a profound recognition of the strong bonds shared between humans and animals. The emotional relief was palpable as owners embraced their pets after days of anxiety, highlighting the importance of ensuring the welfare of all family members, pets included, during times of crisis.
Nikos Chryssakis, the Special Secretary for Animal Welfare, emphasized the significance of this operation, stating that pets should not be seen as mere luggage but as integral family members deserving of care and protection. This initiative sets a precedent for future efforts and reflects the Greek government's commitment to supporting its citizens and their pets in times of need.
