Fire Victims of Multicomercio Building Hold Protest and Announce Second Constitutional Demand for Omission

A group of fire victims from the Multicomercio building in Guayaquil is planning to file a second constitutional demand against the city government and fire department for alleged negligence.

Victims affected by the fire at the Multicomercio building in Guayaquil are organizing a peaceful protest while announcing their intention to file a second constitutional demand against the Municipality and the Fire Department for what they see as a failure to act regarding zoning violations. The property owners argue that the commercial center was improperly utilized as warehouses, leading to the devastating incident. This lawsuit adds to an existing legal action initiated by one of the owners, which is supported by 35 other affected individuals.

During a recent gathering near the burned building, the condominium owners expressed their frustration and demand for swifter legal procedures and investigations currently underway. At present, four investigations are being conducted by the public prosecutor's office, alongside an ongoing civil lawsuit. Their calls for accountability center around the need to clarify the circumstances leading up to the fire, particularly with regards to property damage and negligence from the building administration.

The attorney representing the affected owners, Maikol Pita, emphasized the importance of uncovering the truth behind the tragic events. The legal actions taken not only seek justice for the victims but also aim to address broader concerns about building safety regulations and the enforcement of zoning laws in Guayaquil. This situation highlights ongoing issues within local government oversight, which may have significant implications for both residents and business operations in the city.
