This article details a design proposal for expanding the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Buenos Aires, which is situated amid historic institutional buildings along the waterfront in Buenos Aires. It highlights the importance of respecting the patrimonial character of the surrounding environment and aims to integrate the new structure into this historical context. By echoing the characteristics of adjacent buildings, the project is designed to reinforce the institutional nature of the faculty while maintaining harmony with its surroundings.

The design incorporates a base that reflects the architectural style of neighboring constructions, enhancing the continuity between the new and old structures. This thoughtful integration not only preserves the historical narrative of the area but also introduces modern elements that lighten the overall appearance of the building, making it more transparent and permeable. The interior design allows for clear views of the neighboring historic buildings, thereby increasing their visibility and appreciation from within the new facility.

Furthermore, the project features a significant English courtyard that connects the new building with the ministries across the street. This courtyard is intended to serve as an exhibition space and an area for expansion, further blending the academic space with public engagement. By adopting the guiding lines of nearby buildings, the design achieves a cohesive composition that respects the heritage of the city while fulfilling the modern needs of the university community.
