The fate of the Kajaani racetrack has been revealed: operations will continue as before
The Kajaani racetrack will continue operations without government support, thanks to unanimous decision by the board.
The Kajaani racetrack has been facing financial challenges, primarily due to the absence of funding from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for 2026. However, during a meeting, the board, led by Chair Emmi Manninen, decided unanimously to continue the operations of the racetrack in its current format. This announcement brings relief to local supporters and stakeholders invested in the racetrack's future.
Chairman Manninen expressed her satisfaction with the board's decision, highlighting ongoing efforts to organize local horse racing events. She mentioned that community members and volunteers have been working hard for several months to sustain operations despite financial constraints. Significant savings have already been achieved in salary expenses, and the company is committed to continuing on a tight budget, relying on support from local businesses and communities to navigate the upcoming summer season.
The racetrack plans to host a range of smaller-scale events during the summer months, following the successful local races held in Kajaani after a multi-year hiatus last autumn, which attracted 61 participants. Manninen remains optimistic about the future of the racetrack, expressing hope that local community members will rally to support its activities and ensure that it remains a vibrant part of the Kajaani area over the coming years.
