Germany’s Aumovio will stop producing auto parts in Lithuania
The company Aumovio Autonomous Mobility Lithuania has announced the inevitable cessation of operations in Kaunas due to declining order volumes and logistics challenges.
Aumovio Autonomous Mobility Lithuania, operating in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone, has announced its decision to cease auto parts production amidst challenging market conditions. The company's management undertook a comprehensive analysis of production capacity and future demand trends, leading them to conclude that halting operations in Kaunas is unavoidable. They have stated that the decision has been approved by its parent company, Aumovio, and have initiated consultation processes with local employee representatives.
The plant's shutdown has been attributed to a significant decline in orders, underutilization of production capacity, and ongoing logistical issues that have plagued the facility in recent years. The company is coordinating with both the Lithuanian and German governments regarding the closure process. Lithuanian officials have reiterated that this decision is not influenced by conditions within Lithuania, emphasizing external factors at play that are specific to the company's operational challenges.
Lithuania's Prime Minister, Inga Ruginiene, has asserted that the shutdown is not linked to the local environment. The closure highlights the vulnerabilities of the automotive supply chain in regions impacted by fluctuating demand and logistical hurdles, raising concerns about economic stability and job security for those employed at the Kaunas facility.
