Lene Balleby becomes Queen Margrethe's new lady in waiting
Lene Balleby has been appointed as Queen Margrethe's new lady in waiting, effective April, succeeding Nina Munch Perrin.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark is set to welcome Lene Balleby as her new lady in waiting starting in April. This change has been confirmed by the royal house to Billed-Bladet. Balleby, who has an extensive background within the royal family, previously served as the royal communications chief from 2008 until February 2025, indicating that she is well-acquainted with the dynamics and traditions of the Danish monarchy.
At 69, Lene Balleby brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She originally trained as a primary school teacher but made a significant career shift through additional training in journalism. This led her to become the deputy head of the communications department at the insurance company Hafnia in 1987. After spending 13 years at the Egmont Group and four years at the Danish embassy in Washington D.C., her expertise eventually landed her pivotal roles within the Danish royal family.
Balleby's appointment reflects her deep connections to the institutions and historical contexts of the Danish royal household. As the new lady in waiting, she is expected to uphold and advance the royal family's public communications while ensuring a smooth operation within its functions, thereby continuing the tradition of knowledgeable and experienced individuals supporting Queen Margrethe in her royal duties.
