The Estonia app reached nearly 190,000 devices with a safety notification
The Estonian government's emergency notification system, EE-ALARM, tested its delivery via an app, reaching around 190,000 devices.
On March 16 and 18, the Estonian Information System Authority (RIA) conducted tests with partners to evaluate the transmission of safety notifications through the Estonian app as part of the nationwide emergency notification system known as EE-ALARM. These tests aimed to ensure the app's effective communication capabilities in times of crisis.
On Monday, the functionalities of mobile applications were assessed, and the comprehensive tests today initiated all EE-ALARM channels, including the siren network. This thorough approach is essential to ensure that notifications can efficiently reach citizens during emergencies, thus enhancing public safety.
The initiative to integrate an app for emergency notifications is part of Estonia's ongoing commitment to utilize technology for improving national security measures. The ability to alert a substantial number of devices rapidly highlights the effectiveness of such systems in crisis preparedness and response, potentially saving lives during emergencies.
