Sirens will sound again across Estonia to test the emergency alert system
On March 18, the Estonian Rescue Board will test the EE-ALARM emergency alert system, activating sirens nationwide for real hazard alert.
On March 18, 2023, the Estonian Rescue Board will conduct a test of the national emergency alert system known as EE-ALARM. This test will involve activating sirens across the country between 15:00 and 15:10 to simulate a real danger signal. People will receive information about this test through the Estonian app and the 'Be Prepared!' mobile application, in addition to national public broadcasting channels.
In addition to the siren test, an SMS message providing preliminary information about the test will be sent out around midday on the same day. This initiative aims to assess and ensure the effectiveness of the alert system in case of real emergencies, enabling citizens to recognize alert signals and take appropriate actions if necessary.
The EE-ALARM system, along with the siren network, is critical for quick communication with the public during emergencies such as natural disasters or other crises. By conducting these tests, the Estonian authorities aim to improve public awareness and preparedness for possible emergencies, reinforcing the need for citizens to stay informed and ready to respond efficiently to alerts.
