Frølich new leader of the Storting's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee

Peter Frølich of the Conservative Party has been appointed as the new leader of the Storting's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in Norway.

Peter Frølich, a prominent member of Norway's Conservative Party (Høyre), has been appointed as the new head of the Storting's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, succeeding Ine Eriksen Søreide. Søreide held the position from 2009 until she became the Minister of Defense in 2013 and resumed the role in 2021. Frølich's appointment comes at a time of heightened global tensions, particularly due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, which he has passionately advocated for through various initiatives.

In a recent statement, Frølich articulated the seriousness of the current geopolitical landscape, emphasizing that the world is facing significant turmoil. He likened the present situation to a pre-war period, suggesting that the course of future conflicts depends on proactive measures taken by world leaders. His previous experience as the leader of the Storting's Control and Constitutional Committee provides him with a solid foundation to tackle the challenges that lay ahead in his new role.

Frølich has been actively involved in supporting Ukraine, particularly in response to Russia's invasion in February 2022. He co-founded the organization 'Fritt Ukraina,' which aims to gather support and resources for Ukrainian forces. His strong commitment to foreign policy and defense issues is expected to influence Norway's approach to international relations during these turbulent times, reflecting a broader need for national leaders to respond decisively to global crises.
