Frølich is the new leader of the Storting's Foreign and Defence Committee
Frølich has been appointed as the new leader of the Storting's Foreign and Defence Committee, succeeding Ine Eriksen Søreide.
Eric Frølich has been confirmed as the new leader of the Storting's Foreign and Defence Committee, taking over from Ine Eriksen Søreide, who became the new leader of the Conservative Party in February. TV 2 was the first to report on this appointment. Frølich highlighted the current global situation, suggesting that the world is on the brink of war and emphasizing the importance of leadership in navigating these challenging times.
Søreide had held the position since 2009, apart from a brief hiatus when she served as Minister of Defence from 2013. She resumed her leadership role in 2021 and personally nominated Frølich to succeed her. Frølich's experience in political leadership includes heading the Control and Constitution Committee in the Storting, positioning him as a veteran in parliamentary affairs.
Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Frølich played a significant role in establishing Fritt Ukraina, a volunteer organization that raises equipment and resources for Ukrainian forces. His new leadership role comes at a critical time when international relations are fraught, and his statements reflect a heightened awareness of global threats, highlighting the Storting's evolving role in Norway's foreign policy and defence strategies.
