GS Caltex secured a playoff spot in the 2025-2026 V-League season after a crucial victory against Hyundai Engineering & Construction, while KB Insurance also claimed their place in the upcoming spring volleyball playoffs.
In a breathtaking conclusion to the 2025-2026 V-League season, GS Caltex and KB Insurance emerged as the final teams to secure playoff spots in the women's and men's spring volleyball respectively. GS Caltex clinched their playoff position with a commanding 3-0 victory over Hyundai Engineering & Construction at the Jangchung Gymnasium, marking their return to the postseason for the first time since their championship win in the 2020-2021 season. This crucial victory not only enabled them to finish third in the regular league but also showcased the fierce competitive spirit in the league, especially with three teams ending with the same point total.
The match was particularly significant for GS Caltex, who had been under pressure to perform after falling to fifth place with 54 points before the game. Their success in overcoming the challenge was attributed to the outstanding play of Cuban star Gisel Silva, who set a new record for the most points in a season with 1,083. Silva's exceptional performance included achieving a 'triple crown' with substantial contributions in attacking, serves, and blocking, effectively leading her team towards the playoffs. Head coach Lee Young-taek expressed pride in his players' resilience and emphasized the need for thorough preparation as the playoffs approach.
In a parallel matchup at the Suwon Gymnasium, KB Insurance also secured their place in the spring volleyball playoffs with a decisive 3-0 win against Korea Electric Power. This match, dubbed a 'decapitation match' due to its critical nature, underscored the high stakes involved as both teams vied for a shot at playoff glory. With both GS Caltex and KB Insurance now aiming for championship success, the V-League continues to demonstrate the thrilling competitiveness of South Korean volleyball, setting the stage for an exciting playoff season.
