Euroseas expands its shipbuilding program

Euroseas has announced the expansion of its shipbuilding program with the order of two high-capacity container ships for refrigerated cargo, to be built in China.

Euroseas, a shipping company based in Greece, is set to expand its shipbuilding program by ordering two new high-capacity container ships designed to transport refrigerated cargo (2,800 TEU). These vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in June and August 2028, will be constructed by Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd in China. Each ship is estimated to cost around $46.35 million and will be financed through a combination of loans and equity. Additionally, the contract includes an option for four more similar ships, reflecting the company’s strategic growth plan.

The newly ordered ships will comply with the Environmental Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 standards and the International Maritime Organization's NOx Tier III emissions regulations, demonstrating Euroseas’ commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. With over 1,000 slots for refrigerated containers, these ships are well-equipped to handle high-demand cold storage needs in the evolving global market for refrigerated cargo. Euroseas CEO Aristides Pittas expressed optimism about the continuous demand, stating that the outlook for the global refrigerated container market is very positive.

This expansion comes at a time when there is significant growth potential in the refrigerated cargo segment, which has seen increasing demand due to factors like the rising requirement for perishable goods and alternative food products. By positioning itself strategically and enhancing its fleet, Euroseas is expecting to capitalize on these market trends, thereby solidifying its competitive edge in the shipping industry.
