A milestone for the city: Poços de Caldas ends the era of horse-drawn carriages
The city of Poços de Caldas has officially banned horse-drawn carriages in key areas to enhance traffic safety and modernize urban mobility.
The Municipal Government of Poços de Caldas has enacted a significant regulation, as outlined in Decree No. 14,970, which prohibits the circulation of horse-drawn vehicles in strategic locations throughout the city. Signed by Mayor Paulo Ney, this new measure symbolizes the city’s commitment to modernity and public safety, putting an end to a more than forty-year tradition of using animal-drawn carriages.
Under the new legislation, horse-drawn vehicles are banned from the city’s central areas, specifically as per the limitations detailed in the city's Master Plan, as well as along major thoroughfares such as João Pinheiro and Mansur Frayha avenues. This decision aligns with the guidelines set forth in Brazil's Traffic Code and aims to bolster safety in transit while facilitating the ongoing evolution of urban mobility within Poços de Caldas.
The phasing out of horse-drawn carriages marks a significant cultural shift, indicating that the city is moving forward with contemporary transportation methods while addressing public safety concerns. Those who fail to comply with the new regulations will face penalties in accordance with traffic laws, emphasizing the importance of adhering to this progressive change.
