Jung Cheong-rae on ‘Kim Eo-joon News Factory’ says 'Mind and Heart in Unison' on Final Plan for Prosecutorial Reform

Jung Cheong-rae, leader of the Democratic Party, discussed the party's final plan for establishing a Special Investigation Agency and a Public Prosecution Office on 'Kim Eo-joon's Humble News Factory', emphasizing his alignment with President Lee Jae-myung's views.

Jung Cheong-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appeared on 'Kim Eo-joon's Humble News Factory' to elaborate on the final party stance regarding the establishment of a Special Investigation Agency (SIA) and a Public Prosecution Office, which was adopted just a day before the broadcast. During the interview, he asserted that he was on the same page as President Lee Jae-myung, declaring 'Mind and Heart in Unison'. However, there has been backlash from within the party surrounding the appropriateness of Jung's appearance on the show, especially given President Lee's previous expression of disappointment regarding Kim Eo-joon's comments.

Jung highlighted that the discussions regarding the SIA and Public Prosecution Office were elevated to discussions that involved direct communications with the Blue House, attributing the successful formulation of the final plan to President Lee’s decisive will for prosecutorial reform. He stated that the elimination of Article 45 of the SIA law, which allowed prosecutors to intervene in ongoing investigations, was primarily led by the Blue House, indicating a unified approach to diminishing prosecutorial power.

Moreover, Jung responded to a previous remark by President Lee about the management of the reform processes, clarifying that the responsibility lies with government task forces that lacked sufficient communication with the party. This situation has led to confusion among party members regarding Jung's participation in a program that suggests the controversial idea of a 'deal' with the president over the prosecution's actions, reflecting internal party dynamics and tensions regarding both strategy and public perception.
