Jung Cheong-rae from 'Kim Eo-jun YouTube' says, 'Article 45 of the Major Crime Investigation Agency Law was entirely edited out at the request of the Blue House'
Jung Cheong-rae, leader of the Democratic Party, revealed that Article 45 of the Major Crime Investigation Agency Law was radically changed due to a suggestion from the Blue House.
On the 18th, Jung Cheong-rae, the leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, appeared on the YouTube program 'Kim Eo-jun's Humility is Difficult News Factory' and stated that Article 45 of the Major Crime Investigation Agency Law was fully edited out at the request of the Blue House, despite efforts from the party to modify it. He mentioned that while the party was considering how to present the article more gently, it was ultimately decided by the Blue House that a complete removal was preferable.
During the conversation, when Kim Eo-jun asked if the decision reflected the president's will, Jung acknowledged it as a possibility but emphasized that it was not definitive. He praised the president's commitment to judicial reform, attributing the legislative changes to his resolve. Article 45 has faced criticism for allowing prosecution involvement in investigations, raising concerns about judicial independence.
Jung discussed the final adjustments of the law and his team's efforts, including consultations with various party members, and specifically with former prosecutor Park Eun-jeong, who offered insights on the implications of the investigative powers outlined in the law. He expressed gratitude towards Hong Ik-pyo, a senior policy advisor, for his contributions in navigating the discussions regarding judicial reform.
