Police carry out operation in Vila Kennedy to locate PM's killers on Avenida Brasil
The police are conducting an operation to find the killers of a military policeman who was shot last year on Avenida Brasil.
On Wednesday morning, police initiated an operation in Vila Kennedy, Brazil, to search for the perpetrators responsible for the murder of military policeman Marcelo José Batista. The officer was fatally shot in April of the previous year while using the expressway towards the West Zone around 4:30 AM; he was ambushed by criminals who left his vehicle riddled with bullets. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving the police with a crime that has not yet seen a resolution.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Special Highways Patrol Battalion (BPVE) discovered the victim’s car with its doors ajar and a firearm located under the deceased officer's body. The incident prompted an investigation by the Capital Homicide Division (DHC), who carried out forensic analysis on the vehicle. While the investigation is underway, the police have not released details regarding the motive behind the murder, leaving the community in a state of uncertainty and concern.
Traffic in the Avenida Brasil area, particularly in Bangu, was severely affected shortly after 7 AM due to the forensic examination of the crime scene. The police have communicated the ongoing efforts to capture the individual responsible for the crime; however, no further information is available at this time regarding any leads or suspects in custody, reflecting the ongoing challenges in addressing violent crime in the region.
