Police operations and controls mark the third day of curfew in four provinces

Police and military personnel are enforcing a curfew in four provinces of Ecuador as part of a state of emergency to combat organized crime.

For the third consecutive day, from 11 PM on Tuesday, March 17, to 5 AM on Wednesday, March 18, police and military personnel have been deployed in the four provinces where a curfew is in effect following Executive Decree 239. The curfew, introduced on Sunday, March 15, applies to Guayas, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, El Oro, and Los Ríos, as part of an emergency state aimed at curbing organized crime activities. On this third day, the Minister of the Interior shared a video on social media to showcase the controls and interventions conducted across the four jurisdictions. The police have also released audiovisual material depicting operations in the four sub-zones, highlighting their efforts to counteract organized crime operations within these areas. In Los Ríos, for instance, the footage showed checkpoints being set up to check documentation and justification for drivers circulating during the restricted hours. The ongoing curfew reflects the government's intensified measures against rising crime rates and its commitment to ensuring public safety amidst growing concerns over organized crime in these provinces.
