In response to rising insecurity, Ecuador's Interior Minister John Reimberg announced the deployment of about 35,000 police officers to enforce a curfew across four provinces—Guayas, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, and El Oro. Reimberg declared that "the time for the mafias has run out," highlighting a strong government stance against criminal organizations.

In Guayaquil, Durán, and Samborondón, which make up Zone 8, approximately 8,000 police officers will be dedicated to enforcing the curfew while still attending to emergency services and citizen needs. The move comes as part of a broader strategy by the Ecuadorian government to regain control of public spaces and instill a sense of security among residents who have been affected by waves of violent crime.
