"SOS" for environmental bomb from the war in the Persian Gulf

The conflict in the Persian Gulf is being described as an environmental bomb that poses significant risks to the world's oceans, according to maritime experts.

Captain Dimitris Matthaiou, president of the Green Award Foundation and CEO of Arcadia Shipmanagement, warns that the war in the Persian Gulf represents a severe environmental threat. He highlights that targeting energy installations, along with the danger posed to oil tankers by the hundreds of missiles fired in the conflict, creates conditions for an environmental disaster that could affect maritime shipping, marine ecosystems, and the global economy for decades. Matthaiou points out that the recent military escalation between the USA, Israel, and Iran not only threatens the stability of the Middle East but also jeopardizes something even more vulnerable and valuable: the environment and the worldโ€™s oceans.
