'To Save the Hotel, Now in Court', BJP Leaders are in Trouble
Political turmoil erupted in Jalandhar, Punjab, as significant BJP leaders faced court proceedings concerning the demolition of illegal parts of the Park Plaza hotel.
In Jalandhar, Punjab, a significant political controversy has arisen following local municipal corporation actions to demolish portions of the Park Plaza Hotel due to illegal construction. Prominent BJP leaders, including former MP Sujeet Kumar Rinku and senior leaders Manohar Kalia and former MLA Sheetal Angural, were presented in a session court over their attempts to prevent the demolition. This incident has resulted in heightened tensions in the local political atmosphere, reflecting broader issues around governance and law enforcement in the region.
On the day of the court proceedings, BJP's acting chief Ashwini Sharma arrived in Jalandhar to stage a protest on Court Road, which led to traffic disruption as party members, including former MLA KD Bhandari, blocked the road. Their confrontation with police escalated, prompting law enforcement to redirect traffic. The atmosphere remained charged as BJP leaders expressed vehement objections against the actions taken by the local government, linking their legal troubles to a broader political struggle against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration.
Sharma accused the AAP government of feeling threatened by an upcoming BJP rally in Moga, suggesting that the legal actions against party leaders were retaliatory measures. He assured that the BJP cadre will remain undeterred in their protests against state policies, indicating a planned continuation of their activities despite the legal challenges they face. This situation highlights the ongoing tensions in Punjab’s political landscape, especially between the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP.
