Fuel prices in Lithuania have skyrocketed in the wake of the conflict in the Middle East, significantly affecting public officials who are required to commute large distances daily. The chairman of the Lithuanian Prison Officers' Trade Union, Kęstutis Pauliukas, has pointed out that the rising fuel costs are making public service less financially viable for many officials. With their already low salaries, the increased travel expenses are becoming a substantial burden.
