Soon, fishing for salmon will be allowed again in a large Danish river

Good news for anglers as Skjern Ã… will have a salmon quota returned this season after having none last year.

Anglers in Denmark are celebrating the news that the Skjern Ã… river will once again allow salmon fishing this season, with a quota of 225 salmon allocated to local fishermen. This comes after a challenging year in which the quota was set to zero, negatively impacting local fishing associations' incomes.

The announcement was made by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), which oversees fish management in the region. The allocated quota not only helps restore salmon fishing in Skjern Å but is also crucial for the local fishing community, whose funding often relies on such quotas to support initiatives like salmon restocking efforts. Additionally, the neighboring river, Storåen, has received a reduced quota of 125 salmon, reflecting a careful management strategy to sustain fish populations.

With the fishing season set to begin on April 16, the return of the salmon quota is seen as an important step towards revitalizing local fisheries and enhancing the economy for fishing enthusiasts. The impact of this decision is expected to be significant, providing a much-needed boost to the local fishing associations and the broader community that benefits from recreational fishing activities.
