Nigeria: Nimet Forecasts Three-Day Dust Haze Across Nigeria From Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted a three-day dust haze affecting various regions of Nigeria starting Wednesday, with particular concerns for visibility in certain states.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating a three-day dust haze across Nigeria beginning Wednesday. This weather condition is expected to persist through Friday, affecting visibility considerably in various regions. Specifically, NiMet anticipates that areas in the northern states, including Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa, may experience localized visibility reduced to less than or equal to 1,000 meters during this period.
In its outlook, NiMet foresees moderate dust haze in the northern region with horizontal visibility reduced to between two and five kilometers on Wednesday. The agency warns of potential impacts on transportation and outdoor activities due to the reduced visibility and advises caution for individuals traveling in the affected areas. Additionally, it mentions that while the northern regions will predominantly experience dust haze, the North-Central region will also see moderate conditions throughout the forecast period.
Furthermore, NiMet predicts that the southern regions will likely experience sunny skies with only a few clouds. However, there is a slight chance of afternoon or evening thunderstorms in some states, including Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. The predictions highlight varying weather patterns across Nigeria, suggesting a need for residents to stay informed and prepared for the changing conditions throughout the week.
