Poll of Polls: Three Parties Head for Irrelevance, One Rises

A recent poll suggests that several Czech political parties are at risk of being excluded from the parliament, while the ANO movement continues to maintain a strong lead.

The ongoing dominance of the ANO movement led by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is taking its toll on the Czech political landscape. According to the latest 'Poll of Polls' compiled by Aktuálně.cz from recent electoral models by reputable agencies, if elections were held today, at least two current parliamentary parties would fail to enter the Chamber of Deputies, and no new parties would break through. The ANO movement benefits from the diminishing presence of its most significant rival, the Spolu coalition, which has seen its support plummet from 23.4% in the autumn elections to a projected 14.6% for its leading party, the ODS.

The analysis indicates that the other parties in the coalition, including the KDU-ČSL and TOP 09, are struggling, languishing around the three percent threshold. If these parties do not surpass this threshold in the next elections, not only would they be expelled from the parliament, but they would also lose access to state funding for their activities, significantly undermining their viability.

Additionally, another party, the new movement Naše Č, is also facing a precarious situation, heading toward the same three percent mark. This has raised concerns about the prospect of a politically fragmented parliament in the future if current trends continue, leading to questions about governance and representation in Czech politics. The implications of these trends are profound, as they may reshape the political dynamics and party landscape in the country.
