Elections would be dominated by ANO with a lead over ODS, Motorists would remain on the threshold of Parliament
A January election poll indicates that the government party ANO would secure 34.5% of the votes, far ahead of ODS at 16%.
According to a polling model by Kantar CZ for Czech Television, the ruling party ANO is projected to win the upcoming elections in January with a similar result to that of the October elections, obtaining 34.5% of the vote. In stark contrast, the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) would receive only 16%, reflecting a significant gap of nearly 20 percentage points between the two. Following ODS, the Survey shows STAN with 14% and the Pirates at 9.5%. If the parties were to run independently, the far-right SPD might just make it into Parliament with 6.5%. Notably, the Motorist party hovers right at the crucial 5% threshold necessary to secure seats in the lower house, whereas others like TOP 09 and KDU-ČSL are predicted to fall short.
The polling results suggest that ANO's stronghold remains intact, maintaining its influence in the Czech political arena since forming a coalition government with SPD and Motorists after the last elections. The Civic Democrats and their allies—STAN, KDU-ČSL, and TOP 09—have been pushed into opposition as a result of ANO's coalition. The stability of support for ANO could imply that the public continues to favor its governance approach in the wake of recent political gains.
This dynamic raises questions about the potential for changes in the political landscape in Czechia. With ODS trailing significantly and the other parties struggling to reach the parliamentary threshold, the future of Czech politics could see a solidification of ANO's power, especially if the voters' sentiments do not shift drastically before the elections. The reported difficulties faced by Motorists and other smaller parties also suggest that electoral strategies may need to be reevaluated to enhance their visibility and voter appeal before the election date.
