Sanitary Surveillance Closes Clandestine Manipulation Pharmacy in Campinas
Sanitary authorities in Campinas closed an illegal compounding pharmacy that operated without proper permits and safety measures, seizing a significant amount of raw materials.
In a coordinated operation with the Civil Police, Brazil's Sanitary Surveillance shut down an illegal compounding pharmacy located on Avenida Doutor Moraes Salles in the Cambuà neighborhood of Campinas on Tuesday. During the inspection, authorities seized approximately 3 tons of raw materials, valued at around R$ 940,000, and found that two individuals were manipulating products without the required protective equipment, which raises serious health concerns.
The pharmacy was operating without a license, according to the local government, posing a risk to public health. Employees informed the officials that the clandestine laboratory had been in operation for at least a year, aiming to produce around 50,000 capsules daily. The lack of regulations and oversight in such establishments can result in harmful products reaching consumers, potentially endangering their health.
Additionally, inspectors discovered that the facility was not adhering to necessary hygiene standards. Products were stored improperly, lacking temperature control, while industrial machines used for large-scale production were found in unsanitary conditions. This closure highlights the importance of regulatory oversight in the pharmaceutical industry to ensure public safety and prevent the distribution of unsafe medical products.
