Two Dao employees fired after discovery of letters in pizza boxes at recycling center

Two employees of a distribution company were fired after hundreds of letters and packages were found improperly disposed of in recycling bins.

Hundreds of letters and packages were discovered in recycling paper piles at a recycling center in Fredericia, prompting the distribution company Dao, responsible for mail delivery, to take disciplinary action against involved employees. The situation was described by Dao's management as 'completely outrageous,' as some of the letters had been found stuffed inside pizza boxes. As a result, the company has terminated the employment of two workers from Fynsk Distribution, who were subcontracted to carry out deliveries for Dao.

Dao's CEO, Hans Peter Nissen, explained that every parcel is equipped with a code, allowing the company to trace them directly back to the specific route and the worker responsible for the delivery. This traceability has enabled Dao to identify the employees who placed the mail in the recycling center rather than delivering it to the proper mailboxes. The incident raises serious concerns about operational integrity and employee conduct within the distribution network.

Following the discovery, Affald & Genbrug, the waste management entity for Fredericia Municipality, lodged a complaint with the Trafikstyrelsen, which oversees postal operations. The letters retrieved have been collected and sent to RΓΈdovre, where Dao’s central operations are located. This incident not only highlights issues in the logistics of mail delivery but also stresses the accountability measures that must be in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.
