The Last Ramadan Crescent: A Difficult Astronomical Pursuit Before It is Swallowed by the New Moon
The sighting of the last Ramadan crescent is expected to be very challenging due to its positioning just before the new moon.
According to various astronomical standards, the last crescent of Ramadan will be difficult to see after dawn on Wednesday, March 18. All Arab countries fall within the area where the crescent may only be observed with optical instruments and is almost impossible to view with the naked eye unless the weather is exceptionally clear. Astronomers and amateur photographers are expected to venture out on Wednesday in an attempt to catch sight of this last crescent before it disappears into the new moon phase, which will render it invisible until it reappears on Thursday, March 19. On that day, it may be visible through telescopes across the Arab world but can only be spotted with the naked eye with significant difficulty in the Maghreb countries.
