Complete Payment Chaos on Viking Gabriella
Passengers on the Viking Gabriella ferry report a complete payment chaos, where card and digital payments are not accepted, leading many to rely on cash that is unavailable.
The Viking Gabriella ferry, operated by Viking Line, is currently experiencing a severe payment crisis as reported by the Swedish newspaper Expressen. Passengers are unable to make purchases using credit cards or the Swish app, which is being compounded by the fact that cash withdrawal machines onboard have run out of money. As a result, customers are directed to only pay in cash, creating significant inconvenience and frustration among travelers.
According to a passenger interviewed by Expressen, the ship's restaurants are only accepting cash payments. This situation has raised concerns about the preparedness of onboard services for such malfunctions and how they manage emergency situations, leaving many travelers without proper means to pay for food and services. The Viking Gabriella was making its journey from Stockholm to Mariehamn, and then on to Helsinki when this crisis emerged.
The company has acknowledged the issue, attributing it to a server switch that likely caused the payment systems to fail. Viking Line's communication manager in Sweden, Eleonora Hansi, is reported to be seeking swift resolution to the issue. However, as of Tuesday evening, Iltalehti was unable to reach Viking Line for further comments, demonstrating potential communication flaws during the crisis that could harm the company's reputation among its clientele.
