The Middle East skies are crowded with supplies: Rise in American military shipments
An analysis revealed a surge in American military shipments to Israel and other Middle Eastern destinations, exceeding 306 flights recently amid ongoing US-Israeli operations against Iran.
An analysis conducted by Al Jazeera's open-source unit revealed a significant increase in American military shipment flights to Israel and other destinations across the Middle East, showing over 306 flights between February 27 and March 17, 2026. This surge coincides with heightened military operations against Iran by the US and Israel. The analysis tracked military cargo flights of the US Air Force using specialized flight radar platforms like 'FlightRadar' and 'ADS-B Exchange.'
Most of these flights originated from Germany, with a staggering 274 flights accounting for nearly 90% of the total observed traffic. Following Germany, the UK contributed 19 flights, while Italy accounted for 8. Limited departures were also noted from Greece, Djibouti, and Bulgaria. Ramstein Air Base in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, stands out as the largest US Air Force hub in Europe, playing a critical role in supporting military operations in Europe and Africa, including medical evacuation tasks.
The report underscores the growing military logistics activity in the region, highlighting the strategic significance of these flights in the context of ongoing geopolitical tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran. With the increased frequency of military shipments, concerns regarding regional stability and the potential for escalating conflict are heightened, necessitating close attention from international observers and stakeholders in the Middle East.
