Workers from health units of the Minas Gerais Hospital Foundation (Fhemig) initiated an indefinite strike on Tuesday, October 17.
On Tuesday, October 17, workers from the Minas Gerais Hospital Foundation (Fhemig) commenced an indefinite strike. The movement began at 7 a.m. and was confirmed during an assembly held in front of the Hospital João XXIII, located in the Central-South region of Belo Horizonte. The unions representing the workers stated that a minimum staffing level would be maintained to ensure patient care during the strike period.
In Belo Horizonte, Fhemig's network includes several hospitals, such as Hospital João XXIII, Hospital Infantil João Paulo II, Hospital Eduardo de Menezes, Hospital Júlia Kubitschek, and Hospital Alberto Cavalcanti, which provide various specialties through the SUS (Unified Health System) in the capital. Approximately 150 professionals participated in the meeting, which also involved temporarily closing lanes on Avenida Alfredo Balena in the Hospital Area to raise public awareness of their movement.
According to the employees, the decision to strike reflects ongoing issues concerning working conditions and demands for better support from the organization. Workers are seeking improvements to ensure a sustainable work environment and sufficient resources to provide quality healthcare services, highlighting the broader struggles faced by health workers in Brazil's public health system.
