Map of power cuts: who is without supply after the storm in AMBA
A storm in the AMBA region of Argentina left over 35,000 users without electricity due to severe weather conditions including heavy rain and hail.
The recent storm that struck the AMBA region has resulted in significant power outages, affecting more than 35,000 users as reported by local authorities. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) had issued a yellow alert, forecasting gusts of wind up to 80 km/h, along with heavy rainfall and small hail in various parts of the Greater Buenos Aires area. These harsh weather conditions contributed to the electricity failures across different neighborhoods, leaving many without power during the tumultuous weather.
As the storm progressed, the SMN warned residents to take precautions due to the intense electrical activity associated with it. The agency noted that the storm front would also lead to a drastic drop in temperature, which did indeed occur as the storm moved eastward. For instance, in the capital, temperatures plummeted by 8 degrees within just one hour, illustrating the swift meteorological changes occurring in the region. Initially, temperatures hovered around 28.1°C, but they dramatically decreased as the storm passed.
In the aftermath, the power cuts necessitated immediate attention from local utilities to restore electricity in the affected areas. The intense storm not only disrupted daily life for thousands but also highlighted the vulnerability of power infrastructure in the face of extreme weather conditions. Moving forward, the incident raises questions about preparedness for such storms and the resilience of urban infrastructure to cope with the increasing frequency of severe weather events driven by climate change.
