A supermarket wall collapsed, trees uprooted, and up to 45,000 users without electricity due to the storm with strong winds in the AMBA
A severe storm in Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires caused significant damage, uprooting trees and leaving up to 45,000 users without electricity.
A powerful storm struck the City and Greater Buenos Aires (AMBA) today, bringing with it intense winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour that resulted in widespread damage. The storm's advance led to a darkening sky around noon, with strong gusts causing havoc across the region. Notable destruction included the collapse of a wall at the Vital supermarket in Moreno, where bricks scattered across the ground, highlighting the storm's ferocity.
In addition to structural damage, the storm uprooted numerous trees in the AMBA, particularly in the heavily affected Parque Lezama, near the children's play area, although fortunately, no injuries were reported. The city authorities initiated an operation to clear fallen trunks and branches while citizens documented the aftermath. The storm also downed electricity poles, complicating the situation further, as damaged vehicles were the result of the uprooted structures.
As the storm progressed, power outages were reported, impacting approximately 45,000 users at the peak of the downpour around 2:10 PM. Approximately 28,678 users were without power at this critical moment. This weather incident has posed significant challenges for local services and raises questions about infrastructure resilience in the face of severe weather.
