Discover the complete program of Holy Week in Quito: processions and sacred music festival

Quito has planned a cultural and religious program to celebrate Holy Week, featuring traditional processions and a sacred music festival from March 20 to April 5.

The Municipality of Quito has announced a comprehensive cultural and religious agenda for Holy Week, spanning from March 20 to April 5. This year’s events will integrate faith, heritage, and culture by featuring traditional processions, cultural activations, and events from the International Sacred Music Festival. The program will take place in various historic churches, public squares, and traditional neighborhoods throughout the capital city.

One of the highlighted preparations includes the floral decoration of significant crosses in iconic temples situated in the historic center of Quito, such as La Concepción, San Agustín, El Sagrario, La Catedral, La Compañía, Carmen Alto, and San Francisco. These cultural embellishments are designed to enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the festivities and showcase Quito's rich heritage.

The first major event will be the Palm Sunday procession on March 29, beginning at the Basílica del Voto Nacional at 09:30. This procession will traverse the historic center of Quito and culminate at the San Francisco plaza, where a mass will be celebrated at 11:00, followed by the blessing of the palm branches. This significant religious observance draws many participants and highlights the communal aspect of the celebrations during Holy Week in Quito.
