Alexandra Villacís proposes a ‘habeas data’ to correct an ‘impediment’ preventing her from assuming her position as a substitute judge in the Judiciary

Alexandra Villacís is seeking a ‘habeas data’ to resolve an administrative issue that is blocking her appointment as a substitute judge in Ecuador's Judicial Council.

Alexandra Villacís, former substitute judge of Mario Godoy, the censured and ousted president of the Judicial Council (CJ) in Ecuador, has filed for a habeas data in order to rectify what she describes as an 'unfounded impediment' recorded in the Ministry of Labor's system. This administrative inconsistency has hindered her from assuming her designated position on the board of the governing body responsible for the administration and discipline of the Judiciary. Villacís was appointed to this role by the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS) and endorsed by the National Assembly on September 24, 2025.
