SEOP and IVISA-Rio shut down illegal barbecue skewer factory in Andaraí
SEOP and IVISA-Rio have shut down an illegal barbecue skewer factory in Andaraí due to unsanitary conditions and lack of proper registration.
On Tuesday, the Municipal Secretary of Public Order (SEOP) and the Municipal Institute of Sanitary Vigilance (IVISA-Rio) carried out an operation to close an unregistered barbecue skewer factory located on Rua Ferreira Pontes in Andaraí, a neighborhood in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Authorities found that the factory lacked necessary documentation for manufacturing animal-based products and was operating under poor hygiene conditions, posing significant health risks to consumers.
During the operation, approximately 700 kilograms of food, including skewers of meat, sausage, kafta, cheese, and other items that had exceeded their expiration dates, were confiscated and destroyed. As a consequence of their findings, the municipal agents imposed a fine of 12,000 Brazilian Reais on one of the businesses involved. The operation involved 20 inspectors and was launched around 10 AM, reflecting the local government's commitment to food safety and public health.
The decision to shut down the factory underscores the ongoing efforts by the municipal authorities to enforce regulations and ensure that food production operations adhere to sanitary standards. This action aims to protect consumers from unsafe food products and reinforces the importance of compliance with health regulations. Such interventions highlight the critical role of local government in maintaining public health and safety within the community.
