Due to the war in the Middle East - the airline's decision: many flights canceled

Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising fuel prices, SAS has canceled numerous flights, particularly affecting domestic routes in Norway.

In light of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly following military actions involving the US and Israel against Iran, SAS has announced the cancellation of several flights. Most of these canceled flights were domestic routes within Norway, with only a few affecting flights to Sweden and Denmark. The airline has cited the need to strengthen its resilience amid soaring global fuel prices, which have increased sharply due to the conflict.

The situation has escalated since late February, when US and Israeli forces launched an attack on Iran, resulting in retaliatory strikes against oil facilities in various Gulf states. The price of a barrel of Brent crude oil, a benchmark for energy markets, has surged to approximately $100. Moreover, the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a key route for shipping a significant share of the world's hydrocarbons, is effectively closed due to this conflict, significantly impacting fuel prices and airline operations.

In response to the increased costs of jet fuel, SAS and other airlines are taking measures to adjust their flight schedules and operations. This decision to cancel a limited number of upcoming flights highlights the airline industry's vulnerability to geopolitical tensions and the volatile nature of global oil markets, prompting airlines to reassess their operational strategies in order to manage rising expenses effectively.
